History
Subject Overview
In Year 7, the first term is a Humanities course incorporating History, Geography and RE. The theme is Britain - Past and Present and the Historical component includes a study of the use of Evidence and Archaeology in History and the role of Empires - Roman and British. The pupils then begin their study of Medieval Britain with particular emphasis on the problems of Church and State.
In Year 9 pupils study the 20th century through the same themes as in Year 8.
At GCSE pupils follow the Schools History Project, studying the American West and Medicine Through Time, as well as a Modern World Study and History Around Us. The Year 10 course also includes a trip to two local castles.
History GCSE is very popular, as reflected in the numbers choosing it for an option subject.
The study of History at Redhill helps pupils to gain the knowledge, skills and understanding, which allows them to view their world in a balanced way. We aim to enable them to become independent learners, who can value their own place in the world and be tolerant of racial and cultural differences.
