Application Guidance - King Edward VI College

Guidance for Year 11 Students from King Edward VI College

If a student has not received a decision yet…

We’ve made over 1300 decisions so far but if a student has not heard from us, it’s probably because they haven’t quite finished their application. If a student wants their application to be considered for an offer, they must make certain they have completed their own student predicted grades, personal statement and career aspirations. If they don’t remember their password for the portal, we simply ask them to email their personal statement (300 words) and career aspirations (100 words) to admissions@kedst.ac.uk

Decision letters are sent in the post 24-48 business hours after an application being fully completed. If a student would like a decision to be made on their application before the Christmas holidays, we would ask them to complete their application before December 19th. A number of decision letters may have been delayed by the recent Royal Mail industrial action.

If a student has not sent their acceptance form back yet…

If a student receives an offer letter and wants to accept their place, we ask they return their acceptance form with any subject/personal information changes they wish to make. They can send scans / photographs of the form and attach them to an email sent to admissions@kedst.ac.uk or return them via post to:

Students should be aware that they can hold multiple offers and accept multiple places for post-16 study. This means that even if they accept the place at King Ed's and afterwards change their mind, they simply need to email admissions@kedst.ac.uk to let us know.

It's good advice to make several applications, accept a range of offers, keep lots of doors open and this gives a student time to think and consider their options while they carry out further research and continue with their studies. Often students with multiple places put off their final decision until later in the summer term or nearer results day, all of which is perfectly normal as they consider your next steps.

Subject Changes

An applicant can alter their subject choices at any time by emailing admissions@kedst.ac.uk. We ask that a student believes that they will reach the subject specific entry requirements, and that their programme of three subjects will still help them towards their desired career. Again, we are on hand for any advice throughout the process.

Campus Tours

If students and their families didn’t get to see us in person during our Open Events, we are continuing to run our hugely popular Campus Tours for them to visit us in college. Tours will showcase our campus, teaching environments, study spaces and social areas and allow prospective students and their families to ask questions about the application process. We will be adding additional capacity through January and February to help students make an informed decision as to whether to apply to the college by our 28 February deadline. Bookings for Campus Tours are live now via our website.

Transport Options

Most of our students use public transport to reach college.  There are discounts available for students who live in the Network West Midlands area.  Students can find more information online www.networkwestmidlands.com or check out our transport leaflet on our website (copy enclosed).

The college provides coaches/minibuses for some students who live in areas where there is little or no suitable public transport. The cost is £450 in the first year and £300 in the second year. We currently have seven separate routes which start in Bridgnorth, Bromsgrove, Cleobury, Northfield, West Worcestershire, and Wolverhampton. Again, students and their families can learn more about the routes that we offer by visiting our website. To reserve a space on the college transport, students holding offers should email travel@kedst.ac.uk with their name, the route and coach stop they wish to use.
